Balanitis (balanoposthitis, balanitis)
Balanitis is a yeast infection or bacterial infection that forms on the glans of the penis and is most often caused by the yeast Candida albicans (in the case of yeast balanitis), or by various bacteria in the case of bacterial balanitis.
What are the causes of balanitis?
- Sexual intercourse – transmission of yeast or bacteria to a man. A man becomes a carrier who may not show symptoms of mycosis, but can infect his partner.
- Hygiene – low hygiene standards.
- Diet – excessive sugar intake in the diet or diabetes.
What are the symptoms of balanitis?
- Increased temperature
- Swelling, pain and redness of the glans – balanoposthitis

- Itching and burning of the glans – balanitis
- Purulent secretion
If balanitis If not treated in time, scarring of the foreskin of the penis, the formation of rhagades and subsequent narrowing of the foreskin can occur. Balanitis also occurs with phimosis, when a man is unable to pull the foreskin over the glans and wash the foreskin and glans.
In the treatment of chronic balanitis, circumcision – removal of the foreskin is recommended. Balanitis does not occur in men who have undergone circumcision.
